Happy Halloween! Celebrating with some Halloween wedding inspiration...

I love Halloween.  It's one of my favorite holidays and the preparations around here can get as frantic and chaotic as the days before Christmas.  We got to attend Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween party this year, which is always a good time.  We were super busy in the days leading it up to it, getting our costumes ready... we went as the War Doctor and Rose Tyler/The Moment's Interface, super nerdy costumes!  Not quite as recognizable as our costumes last year, the 11th Doctor and the Tardis, but the people who did know what we were were super excited about it.  Last year, we were like movie stars.  Both fun!

Anyway,  I'm getting sidetracked.  I'd love to have a Halloween wedding.  Whether it happens for me remains to be seen, but either way, I thought I'd celebrate by putting together some Halloween wedding inspiration.

I have another variation on a Halloween Wedding bumping around in my head, so maybe I'll be back after the fact with another mood board, but for now, here's a start!  I like a subtle theme: pumpkins, lots of grey and black, shimmering metallics, candles, and a few spiderwebs and coffins here and there.

And I can't talk about Halloween weddings without sharing my favorite inspiration photo from Mary + Stefan's Artsy Halloween Wedding on Green Wedding Shoes....

Happy Halloween! Boo to you!

Leu Gardens Weddings

So last week, I wrote about Leu Gardens, a great Central Florida day trip.  While researching to write that post, I found lots of images of weddings there!  So this week, I thought I'd share what a great wedding venue it is... in addition to a fun place to visit!

Florida Day Trips: Leu Gardens

One of the perks of living in Central Florida is the doable-day-trip proximity of so many fun things to do.  About an hour away from my house is one of these great options, the Harry P Leu Gardens in Orlando, Florida.  I got to visit for the first time not too long ago and I was super surprised to find this 50 acre garden oasis right in the heart of Orlando.

Leu House Museum, a historic turn-of-the-century house
Leu Gardens include a visitor center and gift shop, The Leu House Museum, Art at Leu Gardens (sculptures throughout the Gardens), a gazebo, a graveyard, a cottage, and, of course, acres of gardens, including citrus, herbs, roses, bamboo, oak trees, magnolias, and lots of lots of camellias.

Shop (and Eat) Local: The Barn

The Barn in Lake Alfred, Florida is one of my favorite places ever.  We've been going there for years! The Barn has several shopping options, as well as a cute lunch spot, The Back Porch.

Tomorrow is the first day of Autumn!

Tomorrow is the first day of Autumn!  Even though we don't really get true fall weather and changing leaves here in Florida, it's still one of my favorite times.  In honor of the new season, here's a really beautiful, encouraging verse that I found on BibleGateway the other day....

Joel 2:23 (New International Version)

23 Be glad, people of Zion,
rejoice in the Lord your God,
for he has given you the autumn rains
    because he is faithful.
He sends you abundant showers,
both autumn and spring rains, as before.

And we have definitely been getting the abundant rains for the last week or so here!

Finding Peace in the Garden

When I moved in, my yard had some good hedges and basic landscaping, but it needed the finishing touches.  I've been adding little things here and there, mostly yard ornaments and some container plants.  I've been wanting to add some bigger plants for awhile, but putting it off because of cost.  I especially wanted some blue plumbago (below), a pretty blue flowering shrub that is super popular around here.

I had a little health scare this week.  I've had a few weird things going on, then I went to the doctor and she found some lumps.  Based on family history and some other factors, I didn't think it would be serious, but it was still a little scary.  I was lucky enough to get checked out and given the all-clear within 6 days.  Still though, I was very thankful and breathing some sighs of relief after my appointment yesterday.  I think gardening is good for the soul, so I decided to splurge and buy the plants I wanted.

One of my new plants!
And the other one!
I got a few other little ones too. I love the fuzzy balls.  That's the technical term.
Red ixora that was already in my yard.  It attracts so many butterflies!

Like the rest of my place, still very much in progress, but it's a start!
