Finding Gems in Chain Stores: Decorating with Pottery Barn Kids and Land of Nod // Land of Nod edition

So, I don't have children and I'm not planning on it.  I'm also not one of those women who loves to ooh and ahh over cute kid stuff.  However, every time we're at the mall, I can't help going into Pottery Barn Kids.  They have some really good stuff, that I could easily see working in an adult space.  It's not always possible to have the time/money/resources to find unique pieces, so it can be super helpful to know where to find good stuff at the big box and chain stores.

Emily Henderson is a great inspiration for using cute big box kids' stuff in not so cutesy ways.  She uses Pottery Barn Kids as a good resource for affordable draperies.  She also did a really great room with the similar Land of Nod. Granted, this room is for nine year old, but most of the stuff I want for myself.

I MIGHT AS WELL TALK ABOUT RADIANT ORCHID- PANTONE'S 2014 COLOR OF THE YEAR.

It seems like EVERYONE (design geeks, at least) is blogging about Pantone's 2014 color of the year, Radiant Orchid. I'll admit, I was a little put off when I found out what this year's color is.  I was a huge fan of last year's Emerald (green), a la everything Emily Henderson has ever done.

While I love me some purple, to me Radiant Orchid is a contrived way of saying Lavender... a little too reminiscent of the lavender pleated Bongo shorts I owned circa 1997 (which are apparently considered vintage now... yikes). I changed my mind a bit when I saw the Etsy blog's round up of Radiant Orchid.

NEW YEAR'S ROUNDUP

I can't believe 2013 is almost over.  It's been a year full of transitions and changes for me and I'm hoping to see a few good things come to fruition in the new year.  A big one for me is trying to get this blog up and running as well as regaining momentum on my Etsy shop.  I'll be kicking the blog off more officially in January with some profiles of weddings featuring my Etsy items and home design posts including pictures of my house.  Anyway, without further ado, I've put together a round up of New Year's-themed items!

For better or worse, banners are super trendy lately and this one is cute and sparkly.  Fun for a New Year's Eve party or just to decorate the house in the new year.
